In various videos, the man is spotted having a conversation with people inside the helicopter.
A man in a suit, presumed to be a security guard, quickly whisked him away back into the crowd.
He then reappeared and stood by the helicopter which then took off.
Stephen walked straight up to it and grabbed onto the metal landing skids on the left side.
The helicopter continued to ascend as it appeared the pilot and those inside were not aware of the extra passenger.
It flew away into the distance with Stephen attached to it before a faint scream could be heard from someone on the ground.
The pilot soon became aware of Stephen and made an emergency landing in a field not too far from where singer Prince Indah’s wedding in Migori, Kenya, took place.
According to local press, he confessed he was relieved when the pilot safely brought him back to the ground as he had started to feel exhausted mid-air.
Police have since arrested Stephen, who works as a bicycle repairman, for the act, as reported by Need To Know.
Uriri Sub-county Police Commander Enrico Lyomu said he had attempted to beg for money and a ride inside the helicopter before grabbing onto it.
After the incident which occurred in Rapogi Village, Uriri, Migori County, Kenya, police arrested Stephen at his home in the area on 14 April.
According to Enrico, the father-of-two resisted arrest and three officers were required to subdue him.
He is currently in police custody and could be charged with endangering his life and those of others aboard the helicopter.
