The police said the 47-year-old motorist was waiting at a red light outside the café when they suddenly stepped on the gas and careered into the shopfront.
The SUV first smashed into three scooters parked outside the diner.
The café was reportedly very busy at the time, and two female customers were directly hit.
Glass shards were sent flying across the establishment, causing minor injuries to multiple customers.
The police confirmed that the driver of the seven-seater was not under the influence at the time, but appeared to be overly fatigued.
They also stated that they had a valid driver’s licence and ruled out a mechanical failure of the vehicle.
They advised motorists that drowsy driving is as dangerous as drink-driving and to make sure they are rested before driving through built-up areas.
The investigation is ongoing.
