Two government officials were brutally murdered in broad daylight after being gunned down in the street.
Ximena Guzmán, a personal secretary to Mexico City’s mayor, Clara Brugada, was killed alongside José Muñoz, an adviser to the local government.
Surveillance footage on the busy street captured the horror moment the two were targeted by a hitman.

In the video, a car which was being driven by Ximena was pulled over to the right.
An unknown man, who wore a white shirt, stood near the roadside in front of the vehicle.
José could be seen as he approached the car from the rear to get into the passenger seat.
Suddenly, the man in white opened fire on both of them.
The car rolled forward slowly as the killer fled the scene on foot, and ran out of view from the camera.
According to local press, the hitman shot at the black vehicle more than 10 times, and left at least four gunshots on the windshield.
Whilst it appeared there was only one person involved some reports suggest that there may have been multiple attackers.
Police have directly attributed the murders to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), as reported by Need To Know.
CJNG is a Mexican criminal syndicate characterised by extreme violence and public relations campaigns.
A direct attack against top-level officials has not occurred in the area since the assassination attempt of Omar García Harfuch, in 2020, when he led the Capital Police.
Clara Brugada, 61, expressed her heartbreak on social media toward the death of Ximena and José who she referred to as “Pepe.”

In her post which amassed 1.7m views, she added that she “will not rest until justice is done”.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Ximena and Pepe,” Clara said.
“Ximena was a wonderful, tireless, and very kind woman.

“I knew Pepe almost from childhood; he was one of the most intelligent and responsible people I have ever known.
“Our hearts ache.
“We in the cabinet are deeply dismayed and in mourning.
“I wholeheartedly embrace their families, friends, and comrades in struggle.

“We will not rest until justice is done.”
The attack took place shortly after 7am yesterday (20 May), in the Moderna neighbourhood, in Mexico City.
