Fireworks lit up the night sky as they exploded one after the other.
An enormous cloud of thick, black smoke hung in the air as the display went on and on – with no sign of stopping.
The son et lumière was so intense that the motorway resembled a warzone for about 15 minutes.
The baffling scenes unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday (21 May), as reported by Need To Know.
The fireworks display was triggered when the pyrotechnic-laden lorry collided with another vehicle.
The crash caused the truck to catch fire on the Erguang Expressway near Jincheng, Shanxi province, south-west of Beijing, China.
Both vehicles were gutted in the blaze, which was later extinguished.
There were no reported casualties.
The authorities reopened the road to traffic later that day.
One viewer said: “That is the most beautiful accident I have ever seen!”
