FRESH FLAVOURS ALERT: Pizza Express drops new Summer menu packed with dishes you will love – and I tried them out

From tasty starters to bold new pizzas, the summer lineup is designed to delight every kind of foodie.

Available from today at restaurants nationwide, the new summer menu brings seasonal ingredients, bold flavours, and fresh twists on Pizza Express classics.

Highlights include vibrant new dough balls, pizzas, inventive chicken wings, and a few sweet surprises that promise to make your summer dining even more delicious.

Sadly, I am allergic to pineapple so couldn’t give these bad boys a go but the most popular thing on their new menu is their Hawaiian Hot Dough Balls.

The chain have long known the divisive topping causes a heated debate that would be best avoided from the marble table, with 38% of people saying they would judge someone for ordering pineapple on pizza, and 8% of people saying it gives them the ick if someone orders it.

The nation is however united on their love of pineapple, with 80% of people saying they love the flavour of the exotic fruit, therefore PizzaExpress knows its latest innovative twist on the famous Dough Ball can finally bring the public round once and for all.

The golden balls of dough are tossed in garlic butter, loaded with crispy pancetta and fresh pineapple pieces, and then drizzled with The Sauce Shop’s fiery Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce.

However, I was able to try their new Buffalo Chicken Wings… and boy was I impressed.

They were flavour-packed wings, smothered in The Sauce Shop’s Buffalo Hot Sauce and served with a classic cool and creamy blue cheese dip – a little bit messy, but so worth it!

Would I get them again? Yes – 100%.

Next was the two new pizzas – the Four Seasons Speciale and the Calabrian Feast Pizza.

The Four Seasons is the 1965 icon reimagined – featuring four different quarters of delicious pizza toppings – from a quarter of baby plum tomatoes and basil pesto to pepperoni and Calabrese sausage, a quarter of mushroom, truffle oil and Gran Milano cheese, and finally, a section of anchovies, capers and olives.

The menu even gives you the option to change out anchovies for artichokes – which I did since I am not a lover or the tiny fish.

And again I was greatly impressed – the choice of four pizzas, the truffle moving onto the pepperoni and the break with a classic marg topped with mozzarella and basil?! To die for.

Would I order again? Yes, yes I would.

The Calabrian Feast was also something of dreams – packedwith ‘nduja, Calabrese sausage, pepperoni and crispy pancetta, layered with two types of creamy mozzarella, Gran Milano cheese, plus an extra addition of chilli and finished with a drizzle of hot honey.

While they do claim this to have “some serious heat,” I thought it was a good medium heat as someone who doesn’t like spice.

If anything, I’d have liked more!

But would I get this one again? I would – but it wouldn’t be my first choice, it was delicious and tasty but I’d have liked more spice.

Lastly is their new dessert… the Birthday Cake Sundae.

Described as “a party in a glass” the treat consists of creamy vanilla gelato, raspberry coulis, whipped cream and celebratory sprinkles, adorned with a mini vanilla sponge cake, filled with buttercream and raspberry jam.

They say the finishing touch is: “a sprinkle of Joe & Seph’s gourmet Birthday Cake Popcorn, making this
dessert the perfect finisher to a summer menu which really turns up the heat.”

I’m not usually a lover of birthday cake flavoured items but this did it for me – the cupcake with smooth gelato and raspberry coulis?! A DREAM.

I wasn’t a big fan of the popcorn as mine had been buried below the ice cream making it quite cold and frozen, however, the rest was divine.

To change things up we went for their double Belgian chocolate brownie too – a chocolate lover’s dream.

Served warm with chocolate sauce and topped with vanilla gelato and chocolate twists – the perfect after dinner sweet treat.

And I would 100% get both desserts again!

Whether you’re craving a perfectly cooked pizza or looking to cool off with a scoop of refreshing ice cream, Pizza Express has your summer dinner plans sorted.

With something for everyone, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy great food and good vibes.
