A timid rescue dog sparked a dramatic hunt after bolting from his home – and was finally found stranded on cliffs days later.
Jake, who had only recently been adopted, vanished from his house in Mevagissey, Cornwall, on 9 August and triggered a huge community search.
Volunteers scoured the area day and night, putting up posters, flying drones and calling in Cornwall Search Dogs and DogLost Cornwall UK, as reported by Need To Know.

For almost a week, there wasn’t a single sighting – until the runaway pooch was finally spotted perched high above the sea at Dodman Point, more than two miles from where he first vanished, on Thursday (14 August).

Coastguards from St Austell and Mevagissey, supported by Fowey RNLI and drone operators, swooped into action, while Jake’s distraught owner gently coaxed him to safety.
After hours of patience, she slipped a lead over Jake’s head before rescuers hauled him back up the cliff.
Overjoyed volunteers jumped with joy as the scared mutt was carried back to solid ground – and finally returned to his loving home.
One helper said, “It just shows what amazing things can happen when a whole community pulls together.”
Jake is now safe, sound, and being spoiled rotten.
