A “good boy” was stood up this weekend by his potential new owners – with a plea online for someone else to step forward to adopt the dog.

Scooby, a one-year-old Mali X, was found “dreadfully underweight” as a stray.

Although he is slowly getting better physically, staff at Forest Dog Rescue in Far Forest were left heartbroken when his viewing on Saturday (27 Sep) fell through.

The people who had enquired about the dog simply didn’t turn up.

“Poor SCOOBY had a viewing lined up this morning; he was keeping his paws crossed that it was going to be a match made in heaven, however, they never showed up,” said the rescue.

“So instead he got to have the best playtime with all of the toys he could possibly wish for or get into his mouth… his day-to-day struggle is to decide which toy is the best one to pick and today was no different!”

Social media users have been quick to share their thoughts on the sad experience.

Anna said: “They didn’t deserve him then.”

“Better they never show up, then take him and realise it was wrong and bring him back,” said Maria.

Kim added: “Clearly not his people. Hope the right ones come along;g. Dry soon – he looks gorgeous .”

Jacqui said: “Maybe its for the best if they really wanted a dog they would of turned up even if it wasn’t for Scooby. He will find a forever home soon.”

Luke said: “Ok I will say this Malioni x – so a working breed through and through. This dog would be best suited to a working role rather than a domestic home I would have thought. I hope he finds his forever.”

Scooby is still looking for his forever home.

The rescue describes him as: “… incredibly affectionate, he loves people, loves to be told he is a good boy, loves his fuss, cuddles and ear rubs!

“He is also a foodie, so using this to harness his training will be key; he does have some of the basics, but with his clever brain, we know his command range can be broadened substantially.”

Scooby can’t live with children under five years old and needs a secure garden to play in.

He hasn’t spent time around cats, so it’s unclear if he would be okay with a feline fellow in the home.

The dog’s new owner needs to be willing to put in the time for training this good boy, as well as keep him active.

He loves inspecting toys in the play pen and will play fetch – but “mainly just likes to carry his chosen toy and mooch round”, as reported by Need To Know.
