Posh chocolates and washing pods have been spotted locked up in security boxes to deter sticky-fingered thieves.
These are the latest items to face the extreme security measures being put in place in shops across the country.
With a rise in shoplifting incidents, store workers are now taking a stand against thieves – leaving shoppers stumped.
One shocked punter spotted a range of £3 Lindt chocolate bars locked in towering boxes.
Despite big bags of Dairy Milk buttons, which were 50p more, being left unguarded directly below the secure items.
After walking down another aisle, the shopper, who requested not to be named, noticed the washing pods had also been locked up.
The £3.85 boxes of Persil and Fairy washing items were also placed in tagged boxes, which required staff to open upon purchase.
£6 bottles of detergent were also spotted in security boxes.
The footage was captured on (28 Sep), as reported by Need To Know.
The boxes were seen in Sainsbury’s Local, Colindale, Barnet, London.
The shopper said: “I’m worried about rising prices in shops impacting people and cost of living pressure, which has resulted in washing powder, an everyday essential, being kept in a security container. “
Members of the public were left shocked by the footage.
Damian Evans added: “Chocolate got ID cards.”

Dani said: “Not the chocolate. What on earth is happening?”
Shaney said: “Should have locked up the pricier ones, not the £3 ones when the milk buttons are £3.50.”
Another said: “Oh no, the poor price gouging cost of living crisis companies.”
One added: “Isn’t it sad to think what society has become.”

Another said: “The rich must protect their assets from the poor victims of their system of wealth extraction.”
Sainsbury’s has been approached for a comment.
