A bride has revealed the “horrific” moment she shattered her knee while dancing to ‘Cotton Eyed Joe’ at her wedding reception – and is still unable to walk five months on.
Sinead Seviour couldn’t wait to let her hair down and celebrate her nuptials with husband, Nick, 31.
And when Cotton Eyed Joe came on, the 34-year-old sprang into action on the dance floor.
But instead of ending the magical day with a smile on her face, the tune left the newlywed in a hospital bed, struggling to deal with “crippling” pain.
“Pain ripped through my leg as I wondered what on Earth I had done,” the drug and alcohol services community engagement coordinator, from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, told Need To Know.

“The DJ put on the classic Cotton Eyed Joe, and as I’d line danced in the past, I grabbed a friend’s hand and headed to the dance floor.
“As I threw some shapes, I was having the time of my life – then came the first jump, and I kicked my left leg high.
“Only, it somehow got caught in the hoop of my dress.
“And suddenly I was falling before crashing to the floor.”
Sinead and all her guests rushed over and stared at the newlywed’s shin, which had twisted to the side.
She was lifted onto a chair, while ice was fetched, and somebody called for an ambulance.

Luckily, a doctor and a paramedic were among the guest list and so quickly scanned Sinead over before going to the hospital on 23 June 2025.
Sadly, the bride was left in “agony”.
She said: “It felt like my leg wasn’t attached.
“The paramedic couldn’t believe it had actually happened at my wedding – and joked for me not to get blood on my dress.
“At the hospital, I could feel the stares of people, and even nurses thought it could potentially be a hoax.
“But after I had a CT scan, an X-ray and blood taken, they could see I wasn’t joking.”
Sinead had fractured her tibial plateau, a serious break near the knee joint – and surgery was needed right away.

It involved having plates and screws inserted, as well as months of recovery.
She spent a total of three weeks in the hospital before being allowed home, though she kept her spirits high with Cotton Eyed Joe-related jokes from friends and family.
The first six weeks of being husband and wife involved Nick having to “haul” her up the stairs, as well as being dependent on a wheelchair.
It’ll take two years before she’s fully healed, and it’s expected she’ll need a knee replacement in the near future.
She added: “I couldn’t believe our perfect day ended this way.

“All because of dancing to Cotton Eyed Joe.
“It wasn’t how I pictured starting married life off at all.
“I can’t wait to walk again on two legs.
“But I’ve got a story of a lifetime.
“And one thing is for certain; I’ll never dance to Cotton Eyed Joe again.”
