The Volkswagen’s bonnet was left mangled and crumpled.
Police had identified and tracked down the car shortly after receiving reports of an abduction.
But when officers signalled for the driver to stop, he ignored them and sped off at around 4am on Wednesday (26 Nov).
There were three men in the car during the chase in Wrocław, Poland, as reported by Need To Know.
One, a 34-year-old, was being held in the boot against his will and may have been assaulted beforehand, authorities say.
Wrocław Police said in a statement: “Police officers and paramedics immediately began life-saving procedures for everyone involved.
“Firefighters also arrived at the scene to help free the injured from the wrecked vehicle.
“Unfortunately, despite the aid provided, the 34-year-old man who had been carried in the boot died in hospital shortly after 6am.”
The other injured men are not believed to be in a life-threatening condition, according to local media.
The identities of those involved have not been disclosed.
Police have launched an investigation.
