When the attending sergeant ordered the 44-year-old in the Honda minivan to show his hands, he refused.
What followed was an intense exchange of gunfire between Pineda Jr and the officers.
The shootout took place near SW 216 Street and SW 122 Avenue in Miami, Florida, US, as reported by Need To Know.
The officer can be heard calling for backup while taking cover behind a member of the public’s car as bullets flew past.
During the standoff, Pineda Jr left the minivan and was struck, falling to the ground.
Backup from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrived and confirmed he was down.
The gun was secured and the man was handcuffed before medical aid was provided.
He was then transferred by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to hospital, where he later died.
It happened on 16 September but the video has only been released as the investigation is ongoing.
A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said: “As your Sheriff, I remain committed to upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, and public trust.
“Today, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is releasing a Critical Incident Video.
“We recognise that incidents of this nature raise questions and concerns within our community, and I believe the public has the right to see critical incidents involving law enforcement.
“While a thorough investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is still underway, releasing this footage ensures everyone sees the sequence of events as they unfolded.
“Regardless of the outcome, my commitment is clear, to be transparent with our community, to hold ourselves to the highest standards, and to continue working every day to earn and maintain your trust.”
