Distressing video footage shows a man and woman crying beside the dog as it lay bleeding on the top step of the escalator, which had been brought to a stop.
The couple were on an upper level of the shopping precinct, while other shoppers were seen walking past them to take the escalator down to the next floor.
The incident took place in Hong Kong, as reported by Need To Know.
The clip has sparked widespread concern and renewed warnings about the dangers of taking pets on escalators.
In the UK, owners are generally advised to carry dogs on escalators to prevent their fur, paws or nails from getting trapped in the mechanism.
Transport for London and National Rail recommend that smaller dogs be carried or that owners ask staff to stop an escalator during quieter periods to allow pets to be moved safely.
