The tragedy unfolded in Chamonix, France, where Bigi, a keen skier, was spending his Christmas holidays around 4:30am on Thursday (1 Jan).
French authorities believe he was alone at the time, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fall.
Local media reports he may have been under the influence of alcohol, as reported by Need To Know.
Bigi – from Bologna, Italy – played as a defender for Monteombraro, a club in Modena province competing in Italy’s sixth-tier Promozione league.

He captained the team after helping them earn promotion from the seventh-tier Prima Categoria league in 2024.
He previously played for Valsetta Lagaro, including as a midfielder, and Corticella, in the fifth-tier Eccellenza league.
Monteombraro have postponed their match against Castelnuovo tomorrow (6 Jan) in mourning.
The club said in a statement: “We are close to the family and offer our heartfelt condolences to Enrico’s loved ones.
“We admired him not only for his footballing talent but also for his character, on and off the pitch. He leaves an irreplaceable void.”
