A knife-wielding maniac chased down a terrified victim before brutally slashing them.

Jason McDonagh stabbed the victim in an “unprovoked” attack in broad daylight.

The 22-year-old appeared from an alleyway and began by launching a glass bottle at the passerby.

He then lunged at the victim, who has not been named, with two kitchen knives – causing a huge slash wound to his right arm.

The incident took place at Bognor Regis railway station, as reported by Need To Know.

McDonagh arrived at a friend’s house in the early hours of the morning of the attack.

He was reportedly acting “very aggressive” – so they asked him to leave around 8.20am.

He refused, forcing the friends to exit the property for a second time.

Shortly afterwards, McDonagh went outside and attacked the victim.

Sussex Police Officers arrived on the scene where the victim was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.

McDonagh was captured on CCTV and detained shortly after the incident, sparking an investigation by the British Transport Police.

He was sentenced to four years in prison on 27 Feb.

Christopher May, BTP Detective Constable said: “I’m pleased to see McDonagh receive a significant custodial sentence that recognises both the physical and psychological harm he caused to the victim, and the shock and concern he caused to the community.

“McDonagh has never explained his actions on that day.

“He was only loosely known to the victim and by all accounts his actions were completely unprovoked.

“The attack took place at a busy station in front of horrified commuters who were going about their days, and in fact just seconds before a group of young schoolchildren had been escorted into the station by their teachers.

“McDonagh carried out his attack without a care at all for any of them.

“Our detectives and forensics officers worked tirelessly to gather vital evidence so that McDonagh could be charged and remanded within 24 hours of the incident, ensuring he was taken off the streets and justice achieved for the victim.

“I’d like to thank them, our partners at Sussex Police, the local authority and the Crown Prosecution Service for their incredible hard work and support during our investigation.”

The incident took place on 25 Nov.

On 2 Jan, McDonagh pleaded guilty to GBH and two counts of Possession of a Bladed Article at Portsmouth Crown Court.
