A determined security guard tackled an alleged shoplifter by ripping his clothes off in a bid to stop him leaving a store.
The guard and another member of staff had pursued the man around counters in the Waitrose.
Video then showed the guard standing at the exit as the agitated man tried to get out.
He then lunged at the guard shouting, ‘get off me now’ as he made for the doors.
But the security man grabbed his hood and pulled the top over his head to try and prevent him leaving.
It happened at the store in Bristol.
It came as staff at another supermarket chain have been warned that it is a sackable offence to challenge or touch shoplifters brazenly walking out of stores with stolen goods.
Bosses at Co-op sent out directives banning workers from intervening if they spot thieves helping themselves, as reported by Need To Know.
But viewers of the Waitrose incident backed the security guard.
One said: “Hats off to the security man, we shouldn’t allow robbery to be normalised by letting them get away with it.”

Another said: “It’s ridiculous.
“This is the most chaotic developed country.”
While a third said: “To all who endure rising prices ….. this.”
