With the train just feet away, the guard lunged forward, grabbed her firmly, and hauled her back to safety.
He then shielded her with his body until the train stopped.
Other passengers barely had time to react.
The rescue took place at Xinji South Station in the city of Xinji, China, on 3 July.
China Railway Beijing Group shared the video on social media on 10 July to highlight the guard’s lightning-fast actions.
The employee, named as former soldier Deng Zezhi, had spotted the woman standing alone while acting oddly and muttering to herself.
He later told local media: “Protecting passengers’ lives is my top duty.
“There was no time to think – I just reacted.”
Netizens hailed him a hero, with one writing: “Your quick judgement saved several families.”
Officials said Deng’s military background helped him stay calm under pressure.
According to reports, the woman was pregnant and had been struggling with family problems, prompting suicidal thoughts.
Station staff immediately contacted her relatives, who took her home for support.
On July 8, her grateful family returned to the station and presented Deng with a banner, as reported by Need To Know.
The sign read: “True bravery for a righteous cause – he risked his life to save hers.”
