A university professor has been sacked following an investigation after several female students accused him of sexual harassment and coercion.

Dr Ibrahim Khadra was dismissed from his role at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, after allegations were made against him by a number of women.

The former Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences was accused of threatening to prevent students from progressing academically unless they answered his calls or provided intimate images.

Further allegations included repeatedly contacting students by phone and message and sending sexual pictures.

The University of Strathclyde confirmed Khadra had been suspended after it became aware of the allegations and was subsequently dismissed following an investigation, as reported by Need To Know.

A spokesperson said: “The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff are paramount, and we take all allegations of this nature extremely seriously.

“The University suspended the staff member as soon as we became aware of the allegations and, following a full investigation, the individual was dismissed.

“The University has provided ongoing support to those affected and will continue to do so.

“We recognise the courage it takes for anyone to come forward, and where they do, they will be heard and supported.

“We have a dedicated Report & Support service which is fully available to students and staff to report safeguarding concerns.”

Police Scotland has also confirmed it had received a report relating to inappropriate communication.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We have received a report relating to inappropriate communication.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Khadra was reportedly removed from his position in May.

Students who spoke to Glasgow Live alleged he had used his authority over their academic records to exert control over them.

One woman claimed students were warned they would not be allowed to progress if they refused to answer his calls or send pictures.

She also alleged his access to personal information, including students’ addresses and telephone numbers, left alleged victims frightened.

The woman said she suffered PTSD following her experiences, including nightmares and periods when she withdrew from contact and switched off her phone.

Khadra studied at the University of Strathclyde before joining as a research associate in 2010 and later progressing through its academic ranks.

His work focused on pharmaceutical analysis, drug formulation and drug delivery, and he led a pharmaceutical research team at the university.

He was also identified in Parliament in May 2024 as chair of Palestinian Community Scotland.

Jam Press has approached Khadra for comment.
