A 23-year-old law student was shot dead in a square, allegedly by her “footballer” ex-boyfriend who then wrote her name in blood on his bathroom mirror.
Lívia Berthoud was shot in Pindamonhangaba, in São Paulo, Brazil, on Monday morning (10 August) and tragically died at the scene.
Officers went to the flat of her ex-boyfriend, Carlos Eduardo Barbosa Vieira Leite, where they found the 25-year-old with apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds to his head and chin.

Carlos was taken to a local hospital under police escort, where he remains intubated.
An initial examination of Lívia indicated she had suffered around three to four gunshot wounds.
Shortly after the killing, her devastated family provided police with information about Carlos Eduardo Barbosa Vieira Leite.
Officers seized a .38-calibre revolver, marijuana, torn pieces of clothing bearing traces of blood and an empty strip of clonazepam from his flat.
It was while there they noted Lívia’s name written in blood with a finger on the bathroom mirror.
Lívia was in her tenth and final term at the University of Taubaté, as reported by Need To Know.

She had also been interning at the Taubaté Criminal Enforcement Office, which is affiliated with the São Paulo Court of Justice.
According to her family, Lívia and Carlos had been in a four-year relationship before splitting several months ago, but he had not accepted the end of the relationship.
Lívia had taken out a restraining order against him after he allegedly stalked her, forcing her to change her routine to avoid running into him.
Her sister Laura told local media: “It never crossed our minds that something like this could happen, let alone so close to home. He had been part of our family for four years.”
According to a photo of Carlos published by local media, he was a trophy-winning amateur footballer.
He remains under investigation for femicide.
Lívia was laid to rest in Pindamonhangaba yesterday (11 August).
Laura said: “I’ve lost my little sister, and now I’m going to have to live without her. I won’t see her get married or graduate, and I’ll never have nieces or nephews.”
