The shooting happened in the city of San Francisco del Rincón in Guanajuato State, Mexico, at about 2.40pm on Sunday (13 Sep).
Seven people were hit and six remain in hospital, as reported by Need To Know.
One victim later died in hospital after relatives drove the wounded away themselves.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old food vendor Julio César.
Two of the wounded were named as Israel, 25, and Christian Antonio.
A municipal officer at the scene said the gunmen appeared to target “two people” and that “others ran so there were collateral victims”.
The Guanajuato state prosecutor’s office has opened a murder file and is hunting the gunmen.
The city council said they would help the injured and their families and work with investigators.
Gunmen have struck amateur matches in the state before, including a massacre in Salamanca in January that left 11 dead.
The investigation continues.
