A private detective sheds light on the simplicity of accessing private information and offers guidance on safeguarding oneself.

Josh Witte’s journey into investigative work began during an internship where he delved into financial intelligence and money laundering operations.

Upon completion of his internship, the 26-year-old ventured to establish his own investigative firm and has taken to social media to impart his insights.

He recently elucidated on the ease with which investigators can obtain personal information and the specific details they seek.

“Private investigators thrive on tracing usernames and emails used across various platforms,” Josh, hailing from Utah, US, shared with Need To Know.

“We also monitor public records for traffic tickets or minor citations, providing insights into recent whereabouts,” Josh elaborated.

Furthermore, one’s real estate transactions are scrutinized. “During property acquisitions, we scour online titles and deeds to ascertain ownership status and residency,”

he explained. “Additionally, we utilize corporate and LLC records to trace financial transactions, particularly when individuals attempt to conceal assets under a business guise.”

Social media is another avenue for surveillance. “We routinely monitor social media profiles, anticipating the possibility of individuals maintaining multiple accounts to obfuscate their identity,”

Josh remarked. “To further our search, we extend our scrutiny to the social media profiles of older family members, who are less inclined to employ privacy settings.”

“Registering your email or phone number with a social media platform significantly simplifies locating your accounts,” Josh noted.

To fortify one’s defenses, Josh offers actionable advice. “Achieving comprehensive anonymity can be challenging,” he acknowledged.

“However, maintaining vigilant privacy settings and exercising discretion in managing your public profile can greatly influence your traceability.”

He underscores the importance of staying out of trouble. “Court records and news releases are accessible to the public in most jurisdictions,” Josh cautioned. “Maintain a low profile. Avoid drawing undue attention to yourself.”

Josh, whose clientele spans Canada, the UK, Australia, and Europe, advises minimizing the sharing of personal information whenever feasible. “Private investigators are not bound to disclose the truth,” he cautioned.

“They are usually able to lie to get information, with some restrictions.

“Remember anything you file with the government might be obtainable by a PI, depending on the circumstances.

“And that everything you do on the internet leaves a footprint for someone to follow to track you down.

“It’s important to be wise and keep your information safe.”
