A mother and son have been pictured together after dying in a US plane crash.

Marilyn Lavonne Bean, 66, and her son Sergio Wayne Lottimore, 41, were aboard an air ambulance when it disappeared over the Atlantic.

They were travelling on the Boston-bound medical aircraft when it went missing shortly after 1am on Saturday (3 Oct).

Bean was reportedly travelling for medical treatment after suffering a stroke, with Lottimore accompanying her on the flight from their home island of Bermuda.

The Gulfstream G100 was operated by Latitude Air Ambulance and had four Canadian crew members on board.

The aircraft had departed from Bermuda for Boston, Massachusetts, and was flying south of Nantucket when contact was lost.

A debris field linked to the aircraft was later found in the water, but there was no sign of anyone aboard.

The US Coast Guard suspended its search after around 66 hours, having covered over 4,400 miles of ocean.

All six people aboard the aircraft are now presumed dead, as reported by Need To Know.

The Bermuda Police Service identified Bean and Lottimore and said a family liaison officer had been appointed to support their relatives.

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with assistance from the US National Transportation Safety Board.

Bermuda Premier David Burt said the community’s “worst fears have been realised” and urged people to offer comfort to the victims’ families.

Hamilton Re, where Lottimore was senior vice-president and head of speciality reinsurance, said it was “heartbroken” by the loss of a “respected leader, colleague and friend”.

The company said Lottimore had been part of its team since 2024 and had taken on his senior role earlier this year.

His former school, Warwick Academy, remembered him as a former prefect and an “outstanding person”.

The Bermuda Police Service said it extended its sincere condolences to the relatives of both victims.

The US Coast Guard also expressed its condolences and thanked the crews and partner agencies involved in the search.

Investigators are now working to establish what caused the medical jet to disappear during the flight.
