A ‘feisty’ seal was spotted nearly strangling itself in twine while sunbathing.

The animal was left squealing for help on the beach after getting caught up in discarded twine.

Fortunately, helpers were on the scene to try and remove the wire that had tightened around the seal’s neck.

One worker pinned down the struggling animal while another snipped the twine.

The heroic members were from the Marine Mammal Alliance Nantucket on 12 Apr, as reported by Need To Know.

When the group arrived, the animal seemed to be sunbathing on a beach on Nantucket, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

A clip of the rescue racked up a whopping 40,000 views.

As soon as the animal was released from the wire, it yelped at the workers before fleeing to the sea.

A spokesperson for the Marine Mammal Alliance Nantucket said: “Well this feisty young fellow did not appreciate us disrupting his Sunday sunbathing, but we’re sure he’ll be much happier without the twine necklace he acquired somewhere.

“Please remember to ‘Loose the Loop’ and cut anything that could find its way around the neck of a marine mammal.

“Always call Marine Mammal Alliance Nantucket for any marine mammal ashore.

“We are grateful to the beach walker who reported this young grey seal.”

Members of the public applauded the rescue.

One person said: “Nantucket is getting a bad yelp review from this little guy.”
