A mum has revealed the hilarious, yet worrying, moment she discovered her dog had run away and boarded a train to another city.

As Beth Cameron rushed around for the school run and suddenly noticed her pooch, Suzy, was nowhere to be seen, her heart shattered and panic started to set in.

The mum-of-three began fearing the worst and thought the five-year-old King Charles spaniel had been stolen in plain sight – but this was far from the truth.

While frantically searching her local Facebook page, the pharmacy technician, 31, spotted a post about a lone dog who had boarded the train to Sheffield, almost an hour away.

And much to Beth’s surprise, it was Suzy.

“I bolted straight to the ticket office and told them that my dog was on one of their trains,” Beth, from Thorne, Yorkshire, told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“The chap behind the counter was just as confused as we were, but he offered help and phoned the train driver.

“Luckily, a woman overheard and handed Suzy over to the train team at Doncaster for safe keeping.

“But she was still very far from home with her little adventure.”

Beth recalls letting Suzy out for the toilet in their back garden on 11 July 2021, before realising the gate hadn’t been shut properly – giving the mischievous pup the perfect escape route.

In a bid to satisfy her taste for adventure, it’s believed she walked to the train station five minutes away and boarded the next train.

While it was worrying at the time, the family eventually saw the funny side and so have people on social media.

In the Facebook post, which has racked up hundreds likes, Beth details Suzy’s eventful adventure.

Users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions, with many finding the whole ordeal hilarious.

“What a cheeky monkey,” Michelle said.

Craig added: “This made my day,” followed by a laughing emoji.

“This is the best thing I’ve seen in ages. What a doggo Suzy is.” [sic]

Jade commented: “Bless you! It’s hilarious but I am so glad she’s home.”

“Omg what a little bugger,” Joshua added. [sic]

She said: “I couldn’t stop crying and in the end, the kids were late for school as they were so upset and it was a nightmare.

“I even had to tell my boss why I wasn’t in work yet and I knew she wouldn’t believe me – but you can’t make this up.

“As we got to the station, I asked everyone if they had seen my dog and described her, until a woman at the ticket office called me over.

“They said her nickname was ‘Lady’ from the Lady and the Tramp movie.

“I finally relaxed knowing she was safe and my heart nearly burst into my chest as I reached her, where I got lots of cuddles and licks.”

Beth, who is mum to Dyllan, 14, Oscar, 11 and Charlie, six, brought Suzy home in February 2018 and quickly, the pair formed a very strong bond.

However, this isn’t the first time she’s made a mischievous dash.

Beth added: “A few years ago we went to a friend’s party and didn’t come home until late, but I noticed she wasn’t in her bed.

“I was running around screaming her name and checked Facebook, then the next morning some workmen got in touch who were at the train station.

“They said she had been with them all night, eating sausage rolls from their packed lunch – she’s like Houdini!

“I’m so grateful to everyone who helped me find her – both times.

“We’ve now got a double lock on the back gate and ensure that all doors are kept closed at all times.

“I just hope she’s satisfied her taste for adventure.”
