A woman allegedly “faked cancer and her own death” – all in the name of a £3 pair of second-hand jeans.

After purchasing a pair of black Topshop jeans on Vinted, a customer asked for a refund – claiming they were stained.

But in response, the seller messaged: “Sorry I can’t refund I am having chemotherapy as I have cancer so I am not at home much.”

The customer replied: “Sorry to hear that but I’m opening a case with Vinted.”

To which the seller said: “Don’t open a case, please. I don’t have long left to live and this is adding more stress to my life and my family’s life.”

After messaging four times to prompt a refund, nearly a month later the customer received a response, reading: “I am sorry but Rachel has died. This is her husband she will no longer reply to messages.”

However, the customer wasn’t convinced – pointing out that the account had been active and listing items, as well as having her sister message the account, and receive responses.

They added: “Sounds like you’ve completely made it up to get out of paying a refund. Reporting you to Vinted and the police.”

The seller responded: “Please don’t. OK, I’m sorry I don’t have a lot of money I just couldn’t face losing the money I am struggling for rent.”

The customer replies: “So you liked about dying and having cancer? You are disgusting. Give me my refund.”

The baffling exchange has gone viral on social media, garnering 9,500 likes and dozens of comments.

One person joked: “I know the first thing I’d do if my wife died was reply to her Vinted messages. Get that sorted before even calling the crematorium.”

“Telling someone you’re dead over three quid is interesting,” said another critic.

Someone else commented: “The devil works hard but Vinted sellers work harder.”

“They really should be doing studies on the astronomical rates of cancer among Vinted sellers,” joked another viewer.

One person said: “I appreciate the hustle.”

“All for £3 where does she rent!?” wondered another user.

Someone else said: “That is wild.”

“A heart of stone (wash),” quipped another person.
