Two crooks who stole £10,000 of SUN CREAM from SEVEN branches of Boots in one day are being hunted by cops.

The slippery duo struck to swipe their haul while the High Street chemist branches were open.

They carried out the thefts on Monday (26 Feb) – a dull and rainy day when the temperature didn’t get over 8C (46.4F).

Up to 1,800 bottles were taken in the Boots stores across the Isle of Wight.

Cops have released two CCTV stills of two men they want to identify as part of their investigation.

Branches in Newport, Ryde, Bembridge, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor and Freshwater were targeted.

Boots’ own Soltan sunscreen costs £5.50 but it also sells brands like Nivea Sun for £7.90.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating a series of high value shoplifting incidents that occurred on the Isle of Wight on Monday, 26 February.

“Boots stores in Bembridge, Freshwater, Ryde, Shanklin, Newport, Sandown and Ventnor were targeted, with an estimated £10,000 worth of sun cream stolen in total.

“Officers are working with the affected stores and continue to make enquiries to identify those responsible.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police.”

It’s understood two men carried out the thefts, no arrests have been made.

Local Ian Dyer – joked the thieves might be fair haired with skin susceptible to sunburn.

He said: “I suspect the gingers.”

Harald Behmer added: “There must be a heatwave on the way.”

Anne Axford quipped: “Optimistic theft, umbrellas might have been more appropriate

Kielan James said: “Someone’s getting ready for summer for the next 50 years.”

Tyler Bernard fumed: “The fact that they could stick £10,000 worth of sun cream in their pockets and walk out unnoticed says something about the price of sun cream.”

Boots has been approached for comment.
