A mum and her sons were arrested after allegedly being caught with more than half a tonne of drugs.

Marinalda de Souza Ferreira, Jardel de Souza Izidoro, and Manoel de Souza Izidoro were nicked at a warehouse on Saturday (18 May).

Officers seized skunk and oxi cocaine from the scene.

Oxi is a mixture of cocaine base paste, made from coca leaves, combined with easily accessible chemicals such as kerosene, gasoline, quicklime, or construction solvents.

The seized haul has been valued at 7.5m BRL (£1.2m), as reported on Need To Know.

The family had allegedly transported the drugs from remote Japurá, Brazil, to Manaus, where the arrests took place.

During the operation, the police had to break down the door of the building where the drugs were being stored.

Officer, Juan Valério told local media: “We found the house full of skunk marijuana and oxi.

“The warehouse was a fortress with several padlocks.”

The police also found vacuum sealers, precision balances, and 9mm ammo at the scene.

Rodrigo Torres of the police’s drugs squad told local media: “After months of investigation, we managed to arrest this family that was destroying lives.”

The three family members, aged 50, 32, and 30, are accused of drug trafficking, conspiracy to traffic drugs, and possession of prohibited ammunition.

Officer Guilherme Torres said on Monday (20 May): “Part of the drug seized in this operation is skunk marijuana, which is produced in the Cauca region of Colombia, bordering Brazil.

“This illicit material was seized in the urban area of Manaus, and investigations indicated it was intended for internal trafficking.”

Rodrigo Torres said: “Now the work continues to try to reach the suppliers.”
