A convicted killer was found hiding under his bed with £42,000 in cash after throwing his own uncle into a furnace.

Giacomo Bozzoli killed his uncle, Mario, on 8 July 2015.

Bozzoli, 39, was on home detention bail when a court of appeal confirmed his life sentence on 1 July this year.

After receiving intel that he’d gone abroad, the police searched for him in France, Spain, and even Cape Verde.

Investigators also believed he could have fled to South America or North Africa, as reported on Need To Know.

His home in scenic Soiano del Lago, Italy, was empty when officers searched it on 3 July.

But after detecting suspicious movement there, they returned to the villa on Thursday (11 Jul).

Officers found him hiding in the storage space under his double bed, along with €50,000 (£42,000) in cash in a bag.

He was arrested and taken to prison in nearby Brescia.

Judges said Bozzoli had killed his uncle because of his “deep-seated and uncontrollable hatred” and “persistent and unwavering resentment towards the victim”.

They said the “financial interest tied to business and family matters” had also motivated him to kill Mario, whose body was never found.

Prosecutors said: “The unusual smoke from the furnaces at 7:18 pm on 8 October 2015 marks the moment the body was physically disposed of.”

Bozzoli has a partner, Antonella, and a nine-year-old son.

He was tracked as he returned to Italy from Spain via France in a rental car at dawn on Thursday.

Prosecutors said: “The distance from his child may have played a role in his decision to come closer to home.”

As he was handcuffed, he reportedly cried and begged: “Please let me see my son.”

He is expected to be questioned about his 10 days on the run.
