A group of schoolchildren were forced to wade through waist-deep flood water just to get to class.

Around 15 in total rushed to help their friend who had gotten into serious danger.

They were forced to immerse themselves in the water which had blocked their entire path.

Chilling cries can be heard in the scene, as the young kids appear to be frightened.

Parents of the child who was rescued have called on municipal authorities to build a bridge or facilitate other routes to ensure children could get to school safely.

The video was filmed in the Tawaira district, La Guajira, Colombia.

Andrés Ricardo Moreno, the Secretary of Education of Uribia, has indicated that they are already working to prevent this type of situation from continuing to occur.

For the moment they are implementing measures so that children do not have the need to go to the educational establishment.

Intense rains have hit La Guajira recently, and have affected large parts of the rural population.

Tropical cyclone season begins in June and usually extends to 30 November with wind speeds particularly in the Caribbean, as reported by Need To Know.

The most affected by winter in La Guajira are children, where several don’t even get to finish the school year.

Others risk their lives crossing dangerous streams to get to their classes.

The children of Alta Guajira will be the first to benefit in the coming days with more than 1,550 humanitarian aid and drinking water being sent over.

It is set to help more than 30 communities in the area and will come from The Arc Golfo De Trubugá.
