A mum has admitted to handcuffing her son to an oil tank after she struggled to control his behaviour while she was at work.

Chazzity Candelario, 33, was arrested on Monday (January 13) after authorities were called to do a welfare check on an 11-year-old “juvenile” who had been “restrained” on Saturday (January 11).

The mum said “she has a hard time controlling her children while she’s away at work”, according to local news station, WGAL.

She is now being held at Lebanon County Prison, with bail set at $100,000 (£82,000), on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, false imprisonment and unlawful restraint, as reported by Need To Know.

Police said: “An investigation revealed the juvenile’s mother, Chazzity Candelario, had restrained the juvenile to an oil tank in the basement using handcuffs.

“Candelario was arrested and charged.”

The Lebanon County Regional Police Department (LCRPD) was initially alerted to a child being “chained” to the top railing of a bunk bed.

The boy told police that he had been “tied to a post in the basement” by his mother but “got free and he accidentally handcuffed himself to the bed”.

Candelario, from Pennsylvania, in the US, admitted to locking him in a small utility room.

She also admitted to police that she had handcuffed him to the fuel tank.

Court documents state that the boy was tied to the tank for up to two hours at a time.
