Two police officers have been taken into custody after they were spotted drunk at a petrol station.

Stunned locals spotted one of the uniformed cops stumbling around the forecourt.

His equally bedraggled colleague can be seen slouched in the passenger seat of their police pick-up truck.

The vehicle is emblazoned with the motto: “Service, Integrity, Professionalism.”

The first cop was also filmed walking towards another car parked at a pump.

He opens the door and tries to sit in the driver’s seat, but is manhandled away by the owner and falls awkwardly on his back.

Meanwhile, a voice can be heard calling out: “Hey, hey, hey! Don’t let him get in! Get him out, tie him up!”

A driver reported the officers after they allegedly hit his vehicle with their patrol car minutes before arriving at the gas station.

Both men — identified as Israel Maldonado Hernández, 37, and 31-year-old, Mario Enrique Armira Zutuj — were later taken into custody.

A National Civil Police of Guatemala spokesperson said that it had detained two officers for “being in uniform and under the influence of alcohol.”

They said: “There is no place in this institution for those who break the law or disrespect the uniform.

“In line with the internal control protocols of the National Civil Police, we report the arrest of two officers assigned to Precinct 44 in Totonicapán.

“The arrests took place at a petrol station in Cuatro Caminos, San Cristóbal Totonicapán.

“These officers were in unit TOT-067 and had, moments earlier, collided with a private vehicle.”

The men face fines and having their driving licences taken away for up to five years, as reported by Need To Know.

They have been suspended from duty without pay and face being permanently dismissed once the case has concluded.
