Fancy sending a postcard to space? Now you can – and it’s all thanks to Jeff Bezos.

The out-of-this-world opportunity comes from the mogul’s space technology company Blue Origin’s non-profit organisation.

Club for the Future has a mission to inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and maths for the benefit of Earth.

And they’re doing this through the rather spectacular initiative; Postcards to Space.

All you’ve got to do is design a digital postcard on the programme’s site and it’ll be shipped off to space in a capsule aboard a rocket ship, reports Need To Know.

After it’s taken to the stars, it’ll be dropped back onto the face of the Earth via a parachute.

Before it’s returned to the original sender, Club for the Future will stamp a paper version of the postcard with ‘Flown to Space’ for a rather unique keepsake.

The initiative is completely free and those interested can create – and send – as many as they’d like.

While aimed at children, it’s open for anyone to take part in.

It’s important, though, to include a vision of how space can be used for the benefit of Earth or a message for the future that’s suitable for all ages.

And they ask for no personal information to be included.

The rocket ship that makes this all possible is the New Shepard, which sets off from its station in West Texas, US.

It’s currently done 29 launches and has flown thousands of postcards to space so far, as well as payloads from NASA.

The programme also has astronauts visit schools to provide space-focused lessons and events to further inspire children to take on a career in space.
