A trapped driver was saved from drowning by brave cops after his car sunk in a murky pond
Officers found the motorist trapped in an air pocket in the boot of a submerged BMW X7.
His car had smashed into the pond and the vehicle’s monitoring system had alerted police.
The motorist was able to tell a 999 call handler his car was filling with water.
And after locating the car, which was almost fully submerged in water, five officers deployed a throw line before dragging the man to safety.
Ambulance and fire crews then arrived at the pitch-black pond and the man was taken to hospital.
He was later discharged with no lasting physical injuries.
It happened at 1:20am on Sunday (2 Mar) in Heveningham, north of Ipswich, Suffolk,
Insp Liz Casey, policing commander for Halesworth at Suffolk Police said: “This incident could’ve had a very different ending had it not been for the actions of these officers.
“Not only did they respond quickly to the 999 call, they managed to locate the submerged vehicle in the dark and took immediate action to rescue the driver.
“Time was very much of the essence and I would like to commend this fantastic team effort which I believe undoubtedly saved the man’s life.”
The driver was initially arrested for failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis but later provided a sample of blood in hospital.
He remained under investigation pending the outcome of the blood tests, as reported by Need To Know.
