An athlete tragically passed away whilst she competed in a CrossFit competition.

Nayeli Clemente fainted and showed symptoms of lack of oxygenation while performing one of the physical tests.

The 24-year-old received medical attention and was assisted by a doctor in the audience.

According to the local press, some people on social media have claimed that the medical team was slow to respond to Nayeli’s condition.

The medical team were thought to have encountered issues when deploying a stretcher, and an oxygenation device reportedly was not connected when it was needed.

Some witnesses alleged that there were not enough paramedics on site to cover the event.

A doctor, identified as Daniela Castruita, was able to provide help to Nayeli before the medical team arrived.

Nayeli, a student, reportedly had a cardiorespiratory stoppage and was taken to a hospital.

She was later transferred to a private clinic where she passed away, as reported by Need To Know.

Nayeli died on 2 May after competing at a CrossFit licensed event, the Cholula Games, located in San Andrés Cholula, a municipality in Puebla, located in south-eastern Mexico.

Cholula Games reportedly received further criticism for continuing the competition despite the tragedy.

It has been said that the event did not postpone activities on the day that Nayeli passed.

Cholula Games has assured people in a statement that they maintained close contact with the family of the young woman.

They said: “During the main event of the Cholula Games, an athlete developed a medical complication.

“She was treated by the event’s medical team and transported alive to a private hospital, where she sadly died the following day.

“The Cholula Games has been in constant communication with the athlete’s family since the incident.
