A stampede of millipedes sparked fears of an impending earthquake after the bugs were spotted pouring out of their nests.

Fruit farmer Chen Chi Tsung saw hundreds of the critters scuttling away.

They were moving quickly and scrambling on top of each other yesterday (12 May).

Chen said they looked like an “army”, and the sight of it gave him “goosebumps.”

He filmed it, but it sparked panic among locals, as reported by Need To Know.

Many expressed that it gave them a bad feeling that something terrible could happen in the form of a natural disaster.

One said, “Will there be a big earthquake?”

Chen said after watching the arthropods, he developed “trypophobia” – a term which describes a strong aversion to tightly packed patterns of small holes or bumps.

He said, “A huge army of millipedes came out in droves.”

But the local press reported that the phenomenon, which took place in Changhua, Taiwan, is not a cause for concern.

It was normal behaviour for the rainy season.
