A beauty pageant contestant was sent to prison after it was found that she had faked a university degree.
Li Sixuan, who has 101,000 followers on Instagram, was sentenced to 240 days behind bars on 8 May.
The 28-year-old admitted to having false documents in her possession.

Between 2022 and 2024, Li had told the Immigration Department and the University of Hong Kong that she had studied linguistics at Columbia University, in New York.

She was then enrolled in the Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics at the University of Hong Kong.
Li also forged a graduation certificate from Colombia University, and stated that her grade was excellent.
She confessed to the crimes which also involved obtaining services by deception, according to local press.

She was initially detained by the Hong Kong Immigration Department two weeks after winning the Woman of the Universe beauty pageant.
Li, who represented Shenzhen, a city in southeastern China, was on campus at the University of Hong Kong at the time.
After her arrest on 20 July last year, police found her forged graduation certificate, as reported by Need To Know.

According to the records featured in her case, per local press, Li Sixuan graduated from Wuhan College of Central South University of Finance, Economics and Law in 2020.
In order to qualify for admission in Hong Kong, she paid just over £39,000 through the intermediary so she could study at the university.
Li was caught after the University of Hong Kong reviewed the academic qualification of their students due.
Colombia University confirmed to them that they had no study record for Li.
Li was sentenced at Shatin Magistrate Court, in Sha Tin, Hong Kong, China.
