A Co-op worker has joked about empty supermarket shelves – the shocking reality after the chain was hit by a cyber attack.

Gracie Smith says her workload has dramatically changed since the popular supermarket was hacked.

Stock has been impacted greatly by the cyber attack, with shelves up and down the country left bare.

Gracie, who works on the shop floor at a Southern Co-op store, has shown what her day-to-day looks like following the attack.

Facing up is an integral part of the job for supermarket workers, who keep shelves tidy by bringing all products to the front.

But for Gracie, of Chichester, West Sussex, this part of the job is currently futile.

In footage from inside a Co-op, areas usually stocked with chicken, cheese and pasta are all completely empty.

According to Gracie, the lack of deliveries has made their days feel longer.

Co-op made the announcement about the cyber attack last Monday (5 May).

And it seems punters will have to wait until this weekend to see an improvement in stock.

Gracie said: “Going into work after the cyber attack was a little surreal.

“After getting no deliveries it made the day seem longer as we didn’t have much to do each shift.

“Despite this we found ourselves cleaning, which we wouldn’t normally have the time to do.

“We were all briefed to an extent about what was happening.

“I feel that everyone was in the same boat with this, we all didn’t really know the situation fully.

“Work has been busier if anything – potentially due to the sunnier weather.”

Co-op has been approached for a comment.
