A shameless shoplifter raided the shelves in Sainsbury’s and fled before walking down the street and pushing through the Tube barriers without paying either.

The crook, wearing a blue coat with the hood up, calmly filled his bag with cleaning items ignoring an onlooking worker just feet away.

A shocked customer filmed as the brazen, bearded man then stroll past the staff member and out without paying.

He followed the shoplifter on the short two minute walk up Hampstead High Street towards Hampstead Underground Station.

Again in front of Tube staff this time, he forced open the gates.

One Transport for London worker shrugged his shoulders and said: ‘I can’t even be bothered’.

The one-minute-and-25-second video ended with the shoplifter walking into a lift with other Tube passengers.

“I was minding my own business, looking for cleaning supplies, when I noticed the gentleman next to me aggressively filling his bag,” the customer who videoed the scene told Need To Know.

“Then I realised he was stealing them.

“There was a Sainsbury’s employee watching, but not taking any action, which I don’t necessarily expect.

“Curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to start recording.

“I then decided I would follow him to see where he went.

“I considered taking action but then decided it’s better not to.

“I followed him up to the Tube station where he walked past three employees who all sort of shrugged their shoulders.

“He forced open the gate, made his way to the lift and disappeared into the tube.

“The fact that nobody, including myself, did anything about it was very surprising.”

The American who has lived in London for four years added it hadn’t put him off living in the capital.

“I moved here for work, and have since decided to open a sandwich shop, which should be open in the next couple of months.

“I love it here, my daughter was just born here and I plan to stay here for the foreseeable future.”

Local Denny Wright said: “What’s the point of TfL security if they stand and watch someone with their hands full do this?”

Another joked: “He made a clean getaway.”

A third quipped: “Don’t worry ULEZ pays for all the fare dodgers.”

Sainsbury’s and TfL have been approached to comment.
