Locals later stepped in to help him tie them up.
Ernesto was taken to hospital covered in injuries, including a bite to his leg and a broken finger.

The shocking attack has sparked an investigation.
Ernesto said: “I had my headphones in.
“They came bounding over.
“I thought they just wanted to play.
“I started shouting for help and tried to grab them by their collars, but they were incredibly strong.
“One bit my leg and the other kept going for my neck.”
He also told local media: “People were walking by, but they were too scared to step in.”
The pit bulls’ owner eventually arrived at the scene in Ponta Porã, west of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and tried to explain himself after the attack on 29 June,
Responding officers took him to the police station to provide a statement, as reported by Need To Know.
He claimed the dogs were kept in a shed to guard his property and that someone must have broken in and released them.
The police are investigating and he may end up being charged with failure to control a dog and bodily harm.

Ernesto added: “I’m a trained fighter.
“I do Muay Thai, I train in Jiu-Jitsu too, and I’ve seen some stuff on how to defend against dog attacks.
“But honestly, I thought I was going to die. They were unbelievably strong – I didn’t think I’d be able to hold out.
“My wife walks there. There’s a nursery just 200 metres from where it happened. Imagine if it had been someone unprepared – it could’ve been fatal.
“I work physically, and now I won’t be able to work because of someone’s negligence – but it was a lucky escape.”
