Nottinghamshire Police said Neil Shackleton, 48, from Mattersey, was found to be twice the legal alcohol limit, as reported by Need To Know.
He has since pleaded guilty to drink-driving and was handed a driving ban for three years and six months at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (9 July).
Shakleton has also been ordered to complete 40 hours of unpaid work within 12 months and fined £199.
He was told to abstain from consuming alcohol for 80 days following his court appearance.
Nottinghamshire Police has since released video footage of the smash to warn drivers of the dangers of drink-driving.
In a post shared to social media, the force said: “Watch the moment a drink driver loses control of his vehicle, swerves off the road and collides with our police car.
“Dust was flying as the car sped over the grass verges and zig-zagged across the road, before hitting the police car our officers were patrolling in.
“No drink is worth the life-changing consequences of getting behind the wheel when under the influence. Don’t drink and drive, it’s never worth the risk.”
Police hope the footage will deter others from making the same dangerous decision.
The incident occurred on 10 June in Nottinghamshire, England.
