A woman has publicly slammed a company that asked for a ‘preferred’ age on its job listing – with the brand since apologising “unreservedly” for its error in judgement.

The role, which is for a photo assistant, was advertised by Greg Williams Photography Limited.

It stated the usual details, such as the start date, hours of work and location.

But the full-time London based role – with regular international travel – came with a rather bizarre condition.

And it’s been dubbed “discriminatory” by people online, reports Need To Know.

In the ‘What We’re Looking For’ section, the ad bullet-pointed the preferred experience candidates should have.

“Mid to late 20s preferred, with a working knowledge of the industry,” it read.

Lauren Spearman, a social media consultant, spoke out online against the company.

“Welcome to hiring in 2025,” she said.

“Let me highlight The Equality Act 2010 which means this kind of discrimination is illegal.”

People flocked to the comment section to share their reactions.

Sarah said: “Experience in…Experience in…Lots and lots of experience…But also, please be 24.”

“Odd thing to list but the unfortunate reality is that this type of bias exists when hiring for any role, you’re looking for someone who fits what you need, and there may be a reason this age range is preferable,” Jack added.

John said: “The ick I just got. It’s like a casting call.”

“Sorry WHAT,” Sophie commented.

Charlotte added: “Sorry what?! I’d love to know the reasoning behind his ‘preference.’”

The ad also ideally wanted the candidate to have a few years of hands-on experience in photography or content production.

Another point read: “This role is suited to someone who is committed to supporting an established photographer – it is not a stepping stone to a photography career.

“The right candidate will take pride in enabling and enhancing the creative output of the lead rather than seeking personal recognition or a front-facing creative role themselves.”

Holly said: “I particularly liked the bit about enhancing the creative output of the lead…but don’t seek recognition for it.”

Amy added: “You need years of experience in photography but it’s not a stepping stone for a photography career. Who would this suit?! I don’t get it.”

Interviews for the job are being held this week.

A spokesperson for Greg Williams Photography Limited told Jam Press: “We accept that the wording of a recent job advert was inappropriate and could be seen as age-discriminatory.

“We apologise unreservedly.

“The advert was removed as soon as the issue was raised, and we have updated our internal processes to ensure our recruitment is inclusive of candidates of all ages.”
