An 800kg horse stuck “up to her neck” in a muddy bog has been saved.

The animal, a Belgian draught named Ruby, was discovered yesterday (3 Sep) around 5pm, with just her neck and head sticking out of the swamp.

The local fire station was called to Bromyard and immediately got to work.

On arrival, the crew placed straw in front of the horse and pushed down to try and give her something to stand on and get out.

But she was very tired and unable to do so.

So a plan was put in place to lift her out of the bog.

Unable to find her owner, the Bromyard Fire Staton called a local farmer to come with his teleporter, a machine used for heavy lifting, and a veterinarian, as reported by Need To Know.

To keep the horse calm, she was sedated.

It took some time and effort but once the straps were secured, the team were able to lift Ruby out.

“Georgie the vet sedated Ruby to keep her calm during the lifting process,” said Bromyard Fire Station.

“She was lifted clear of the bog and carried to a place of safety.

“She was allowed to stand in the lifting harness for a time to find her legs again.

“The harness was released and she was walked back to her stable where Georgie could give her a thorough health check.

“She confirmed that she was uninjured and in good health and will be fine after a good rest.

“Thanks to everyone that was involved in this rescue, team work at its best delivering a brilliant result for Ruby.”

Ruby had fallen into the bog after getting through electrical fencing.

The large animal rescue team from Bromyard Fire Station alongside colleagues from Wyre Forest Fire Station, the farmer and Georgie the vet are all incredibly happy with the successful outcome.
