A drunk motorist has been given a driving ban for Christmas after crashing into a historic building.

The 20-year-old was 24 micrograms over the limit, recording 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Originally built in 1888 the French Renaissance building is currently awaiting redevelopment.

The crash took place shortly before 4am on 2 Dec, as reported by Need To Know.

Mugambe from Church Street, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to driving over the limit and dangerous driving.

The 20-year-old appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court on 18 Dec.

He received a 16 month driving ban and has been ordered to complete 200 hours unpaid work within the next year.

Mugambe must also pay £85 in court costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

Fortunately no significant damage was caused to the building and the driver left unharmed.

The court informed Mugambe his ban will be reduced by 16 weeks if he completes a Government-approved rehabilitation course by 26 Oct 2026.
