A neighbour told police she heard Patrizia, 54, screaming before seeing her fall.
Police believe Gentile, 61, pushed Patrizia to her death during an argument before taking his own life in Bisceglie, Italy.
The couple were reportedly in the process of separating and had been living apart for around a month or two.
Only the two of them were in the flat at the time, which showed no signs of forced entry, as reported by Need To Know.

They had been married for more than 25 years and had two children, one living in Trani and the other in Switzerland.
Despite their relationship becoming increasingly strained, there were no previous reports of violence.
The decision to end the marriage had reportedly been Patrizia’s.
An unnamed acquaintance told local media: “They were due to sign the papers ending their marriage in the coming days.”
Gentile worked in a hardware store and was also a farmer, while Patrizia worked in a supermarket.

Her boss said she was afraid and would always stay on the phone with her sister while returning home.
Another acquaintance, also unnamed, said: “He had a difficult temper, while she was a lovely person.
“She always had a smile on her face despite the difficult marriage.”
