A dog owner has been jailed after a six-year-old boy described as a “bright light” was mauled to death in a horror attack.

Loyalty Scott died after being savaged at the home of a family friend, where he had been dropped off before school.

Less than an hour later, a frantic 911 call was made reporting the youngster had been attacked by two Great Dane/Mastiff crossbreeds, as reported by Need To Know.

The dogs’ owner, Koko Miller, 57, has now been jailed.

Prosecutors said the terrifying ordeal began when one of the dogs broke free and charged at the boy, with the second animal joining moments later.

The dogs continued the sustained attack as desperate attempts were made to stop them.

The owner was unable to regain control.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene but tragically the young boy could not be saved.

His devastated family said they received a phone call that would “forever change” their lives before having to pass on the heartbreaking news to his grandmother.

They described Loyalty as a happy and loving child who brought joy to everyone around him and left a lasting impression on all who met him.

Following a lengthy investigation, Miller was charged and later found guilty of criminally negligent homicide, keeping a dangerous dog and multiple counts of criminal mistreatment.

A court heard the animals had been kept for protection and had shown worrying behaviour before the fatal attack.

On 24 April, Miller was jailed for 26 months – the maximum sentence available.

Both dogs were put down after the attack.

Authorities said Loyalty’s tragic death on 5 December, 2023, in Portland, US, was preventable, pointing to serious failures in the handling of dangerous animals.
