A popular hiking influencer has died aged 49 after suffering a sudden medical episode while on a remote outdoor trip.
Ali Leiniö, who built a loyal following online with his trekking and nature videos, was found dead in the wilderness after failing to return from a skiing excursion.
The self-taught videographer had amassed more than 86,000 subscribers on YouTube, with his clips – documenting rugged hikes and remote adventures – attracting hundreds of thousands of views.

His death was confirmed by close associates, who said he suffered a medical emergency while travelling alone.
Leiniö had been skiing through a remote area when the incident occurred, with his body later discovered in early April, as reported by Need To Know.

Further details shared within the hiking community suggested he may have suffered a seizure.
The influencer had become one of Finland’s best-known outdoor content creators, despite only taking up hiking in his 30s.
He went on to turn his passion into a full-time pursuit, sharing travelogues and immersive videos that captured the reality of life in the wilderness.
Although he spoke Finnish in his content, his videos reached a global audience thanks to automatic English subtitles.
In 2022, he was recognised at the Tubecon Awards, where he was named travel influencer of the year.

Leiniö’s last video was uploaded just two weeks before his death.
Fans and fellow outdoor enthusiasts have since paid tribute, describing him as passionate, approachable and deeply connected to nature.
One friend said meeting him felt like “reuniting with an old acquaintance”, adding that his videos were “outstanding” and inspired many to explore the outdoors.
Leiniö had previously spoken about turning his life around, revealing he had overcome a troubled past before finding purpose in hiking and nature.
He often described trekking as both freedom and a challenge — a way to push limits while appreciating the natural world.
His death is understood to have taken place in the Käsivarre Wilderness area of Lapland.
