A horse was caught on camera whinnying beside her owner’s coffin during his wake.
Footage shows the mare, Nina, being led towards the open coffin on Monday (27 Apr).
As she saw her former owner, Pedro Krug, lying inside, she let out a shrill, pained neigh as loved ones sobbed in the background.

She could then be seen nudging the body with her nose, while a mourner stroked her mane to calm her.
It was Pedro’s daughter, Daiane Krug Palmeira, who asked for Nina to be brought to the wake in Blumenau, Brazil, so she could say her goodbyes.
Daiane told local media: “He taught her to offer her hoof (to ‘shake hands’), and he used to ask her to rest her head on his shoulder – and she would.
“In short, he had a very loving relationship with her. He was always passionate about animals.”
Pedro, 70, had owned Nina for eight years, training her and teaching her to be gentle, as reported by Need To Know.
Daiane said: “One of his joys was letting children ride her. It brought so much happiness to the kids – another of his passions.”
Nina was kept in a stable at the entrance to Pedro’s house and would go daily to a nearby area where she could graze.

In recent months, however, Pedro’s health deteriorated and he stopped seeing Nina as often as he used to.
Daiane said: “Since he found out he had three brain tumours in November 2025, he stopped seeing Nina every day.”
After leaving hospital, Pedro went to live with his daughter and was cared for by her family.
The distance between Daiane’s home and Pedro’s meant he went about a month-and-a-half without seeing Nina.
The long absence came to an end on 1 January, when Pedro visited the ranch where she was being cared for.
“After that day, he saw her twice more,” Daiane recalled. One of those times was last week, when he was already very weak.”
Before Nina, Pedro had another horse, Pingo, for 33 years. Pingo was buried next to his house.
