A British woman has revealed her harrowing experience after dealing with “spotty” skin – but now goes makeup-free after using a £16 ‘holy grail’ product.
Emily Howdle was left ‘mortified’ after a child pointed at her and made ‘really loud’ comments about her skin while in the local supermarket.
It stuck with the 32-year-old to the point where she refused to leave the house without wearing heavy makeup.
After spending hundreds on drugstore and high-end products designed to treat painful blemishes, with little-to-no luck, Emily grew hopeless.
The property manager thought there would be no end to the troubling cycle; until she came across a “holy grail” serum that has seen her skin clear for the first time in three years.
“[When] the child pointed and made really loud comments, people were turning around to look at me,” Emily, from York, told Need To Know.
“I was so upset, I actually left the supermarket and cried once I got into the car.
“It still sticks with me now.
“I wouldn’t leave the house without makeup.
“And even when I did wear it, I didn’t feel confident.
“It was mentally draining.”
Emily hadn’t suffered with any severe form of spots until she was 29 years old.
It happened out-of-the blue.
She said: “I suddenly had clusters of spots on my cheeks which spread to my chin area.
“My face was red, swollen and irritated; it wasn’t pleasant.”
Emily came across 47Skin after an advert for their products popped up on her social media.
She did her research, though remained sceptical about its results given the amount of money she had already spent on other products.
The reviews, however, were so positive, that she was hopeful the £16 item would be her saving grace.
In January 2025, she gave it a go.
She said: “After the first week, maybe even two, I didn’t notice a big change.
“I had some purging – a flare-up – but I was adamant to stick to my routine.
“After six weeks, the difference was night and day.”
Now, Emily feels ‘free’ and leaves the house without a speck of makeup on her face.
She added: “I don’t have a worry in the world anymore.
