A digital artist has used artificial intelligence (AI) to transform cartoon characters to see what they would look like in real life – including faces from Disney, Simpsons, Family Guy and even historical figures.

Hidreley Diao, 34, from Botucatu, Brazil, is a digital artist who spends his time turning characters into real life people with his 250,000 followers on Instagram (@hidreley).

Hidreley has covered notable faces from Homer Simpson to Vincent Van Gogh – using a selection of apps including PhotoShop, FaceApp, FaceGenerator, Remini and Gradient to transform the characters into real-looking people, with some transformations taking up to three hours.

“Every character I bring to the real world inspires me to keep creating because people always like it,” Hidreley told Jam Press.

“I really like Moe from the Simpsons, even the official Simpsons page on Instagram praised my work.

“I love all the Disney characters, I know the kids love it when I make it and that’s wonderful for me.”

In one recent transformation, Hidreley shows a photo of his human ‘Mirabel Madrigal’ – a character from the Disney film Encanto – and then a photo of the cartoon version, with them looking practically identical.

He then shares a photo of Bruno and Julieta Madrigal, also from Encanto, with people stunned at the uncanny similarities.

He has also worked on more traditional Disney characters, including Aladdin, Maleficent and Ursula.

The artist has also transformed popular Family Guy characters Peter and Meg Griffin – and fans thought his versions looked identical to the cartoon.

“Wowww!!” one user said. [sic]

“Love this so much!!” said another.

“I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Griffins will look like!” said another.

Other popular transformations include less human-like characters, including Shrek and Spongebob Squarepants, who Hidreley reimagined as bald-headed man and a blonde-haired boy respectively.

The digital artist has also brought famous historical figures to life, including artist Van Gogh, based on a self-portrait of the painter.

For William Shakespeare, he took an old portrait of the wordsmith and digitally transformed him into a balding man with a similar thick beard.

He also tried his hand at Michelangelo’s statue of David – bringing the still form to life and adding a mop of curly ginger locks to the famous face.

It isn’t just about bringing the unknown to life either, with Hidreley also digitally ageing departed stars – including Princess Diana, who he edited to represent how she would look at 60.

Hidreley’s creativity has built him a huge following on social media, where fans eagerly anticipate his latest reveal.

He said of his newfound fame: “[I am] very happy, I can’t believe this happened. This is an acknowledgment I’ve been looking for for a long time.”
