A fisherman left Instagram users shocked after sharing a picture of a creature from the deep that has been compared to a character from a Tim Burton movie.

Roman Fedortsov, a deep-sea fisherman working on a trawler in Murmansk in the northwest part of Russia, has devoted his life to searching for creatures unknown.

He spends months of his life at sea, much to the delight of his 650,000 followers on Instagram (@rfedortsov_official_account), where he often shares snaps of frightening looking creatures from the depths he’s found.

His latest catch has left fans stunned – with it looking “like a drawing” and even being compared to a creature from a Tim Burton flick.

Roman shared the snap on Instagram where it racked up 12,000 likes, and identified it as a “big eyed” macrourus – a type of rattail fish with large heads.

The deep sea fish are found at depths from 660 feet to 9,800 feet and dwell in polar waters in the North and South Atlantic.

One user commented: “Looks like a painting!”

“Is this a drawing? The hand looks real but the fish/organism does not,” another user asked – though Roman has confirmed to NeedToKnow.co.uk that the image is a photograph.

“Ok, unicorns don’t exist, but this does,” said someone else.

One fan added: “Looks like a creature from a Tim Burton movie.”

“This is why I can’t eat fish,” said another user.

One person quipped: “Pretty sure I’ve dated her.”

“I’m far from OK with this,” said another shocked viewer.
