A man has created the ultimate bachelor pad inside his basement, complete with a workshop, a fully stocked bar and a private movie theatre.
When Jason Sardina moved into his house, eight years ago, he discovered a giant unfurnished basement.
The 46-year-old wholesale trader decided to take ahold of this great opportunity and made it his mission to transform the basement into a certified man cave.
The renovation cost a whopping £39,000 ($50,000) and two years to complete, but it was worth it to create the dream den.
“Moving into this home with a blank slate was perfect, I could design any floor plan I wanted,” Jason, from Buffalo, New York, told http://NeedToKnow.co.uk.
“Inside the man cave there is two storage closets, a large bedroom, living area, lounge area.
“I’ve also installed a pool table, electronic dart board, a study area, and a workshop.
“The bar features a three-tap system, a dishwasher, fridge, ice maker and a sink.
”I had built a bar at my old house which is almost the exact same – only this one was much larger- I have a huge variety of different spirits vodkas, rums, whiskeys, you name it.
“We have parties there a few times a year, especially during Buffalo Bills away games and there is a stereo that controls tv speakers built into the walls.
“There are panels of velvet under the movie screen and there are also Tiffany Sconces on the walls.
“I used led lighting strips to give it colour from both sides and this was in lots of places around the bar area.
“I used an old dishwasher and integrated it, along with a mini fridge and keg fridge I purchased on Amazon.”
Jason has revealed how he managed to create such an amazing space right in his own home, breaking down the cost of his DIY transformation.
He added “I moved into a new home in 2015, a 2,200 square foot ranch with an unfinished basement, so basically the basement is also 2,200 square foot.
“The only challenge was finding ways to hide the support poles, which were several.
“I started with chalk lines on the concrete floor of how I wanted the layout.
“I had a friend of mine, who is a professional deck builder, build the frame for me, he charged me $5,000 (£3,900)
“The next issue I had was trying to figure out how to make the water valves and wastewater clean out accessible.
“Fortunately, they were all in one area of the basement, so I decided to use a drop ceiling in that area as opposed to drywall ceiling.
“I used two by two vinyl coffered tiles, with a faux cherry grain. I found these for $4 (£3.14) a piece on overstock.com.
“I bought all my electrical supplies from the Home Depot and Lowe’s, spending around $2,500 (£1,900) on supplies.
“Another cost was the run cable, speaker wire, HDMI cords for TV and those supplies ran me around $1,000 (£780).
“I had built the fireplace next to a door which led to my workshop.
“Once the fireplace was finished I thought a bookcase would look nicer than a door, and I thought how cool it would be to have a secret bookcase door.
“In total I spent around $45-50,000 (£35,000-39,000) completing this basement.”
Jason has also revealed the most challenging parts of completing his dream basement, spending nearly two years to create his dream.
He added “It was very time consuming, the hardest part honestly was probably the labor of carrying down the drywall, and the stone, little by little.
“My garage was used as a storage area and I couldn’t park my cars in there for over a year.
“There are so many intricate details I did, I can’t remember them all, even the theatre has little subtle things in it only I would notice.
“I thoroughly enjoyed watching it all come together.
“I feel this basement is nice enough to add a tremendous value to my home, I do plan on moving again in the next year or so, perhaps I will do this again.”
